Over the past 30 years or so, I have taken many thousands of photographs, most reasonable, many dreadful, and a few brilliant. In the days of film and prints, they were looked at a few times as relatives and friends expressed interest, and were duly enjoyed by all. Most then suffered the fate of many a holiday or other family snapshot - consigned to a drawer or an album, rarely to be seen again!
Then along came digital.
Now many of these old photos are being converted to digital images and new ones are taken as digital images in the first place. As I do so, they end up on my hard disks and a random screen saver selects them for display. So these images are now being seen again - at least by my wife and I - as and when the screen saver kicks in.
Some have also been added to my village web site - www.stbees.org.uk, and that gave me the idea of setting up a second site with more images of St Bees aimed for those who want to see more of the village. Others are mainly intended for my relatives and friends around the UK to let them see where we had been recently. A few are just nice pictures worth sharing. So UKPhotos.info was born. Why the name? Well, I had to call it something, ".info" names were cheap, and most of the photos, initially at least, are going to be UK ones. (Overseas ones will be added in due course!).
Of course, although not professional photos, they are still all copyright. Please do not use them for your own purposes without permission. Charities and non-profit sites will readily be given permission in exchange for a simple acknowledgement and link back to these pages or to my village's web site.
If on the other hand you find something which contributes to you making money through their use, then I expect a reasonable cut of the profits! I am also open to offers if you want a specific image from my neck of the woods - West Cumbria!
In the meantime, I will add those photos which I like and which I think my family and friends may like. If you are a stranger who has found your way on to this site, you are equally welcome to look through them. You may like them, and if nothing else, it shows you some places that perhaps you have not seen before.
Please contact me if you wish to use any photo.
